the process
-
First I had to come up with ideas, including the story, imagery, and copyright, to pitch to my professor. I came up with three ideas, and we narrowed them down to “Inside VCUarts Fashion: Things No One Tells You."
-
I then researched my target audience and what kinds of posts they are engaging with to ensure my post would appeal to them.
-
Next, I created my carousel post with images I took and used Adobe Photoshop to edit and add text to my post.
-
Lastly, I presented my idea, and my post was selected to be posted.
type of post
This post combines educational, entertaining, community-based, and behind-the-scenes content, similar to “Reader's Digest insider truths” formats.
It’s effective because it aligns with audience preferences for authenticity, relatability, and transparency. By showing the real, unfiltered experience, it builds trust, emotional connection, and drives engagement.
target audience
This post targets current students, alumni, prospective students & parents.
Each group can find something to engage with in this post, whether it’s relatability, reflection, or gaining insight into the program.
the idea
;Inside VCUarts Fashion, Things, No One Tells You is broken down by the hook, curiosity, and expectation in the beginning. Then you see the reality, truths, and struggles, and lastly, you see how things are reframed into growth and payoff.
This concept is effective because it prioritizes authenticity, relatability, and storytelling, which are key drivers of engagement among these audiences. Instead of presenting an idealized version of fashion school, it reveals the real, behind-the-scenes experience, making the content feel honest and trustworthy.
Audiences are more likely to engage when they see content that reflects their own experiences or gives them insider knowledge. By combining humor, stress, and payoff, the post creates an emotional connection, which increases interaction beyond likes.
the outcome
Overall this project strengthened my ability to structure a clear narrative and translate it into engaging short-form content. I also learned how to create content that goes beyond likes by encouraging comments, shares, and saves through relatability, authenticity, and emotional connection. I learned how to maintain a cohesive visual identity that aligns with VCUarts Fashion while still keeping the content authentic and engaging
